FATHER SERVICES HELPS MEN BECOME GOLD MEDAL DADS

By DOH-Pinellas

June 09, 2022

Fathers’ Day is right around the corner, and DOH-Pinellas is working to help make men better fathers.

It can be tough for men to fill that role if they didn’t have good role models to show them how. Some men with absent or abusive fathers may not have had other male figures in their lives to fill the gap. Those men may find it difficult to cope with the results of their adverse childhood experiences.

That’s where the Gold Medal Dads father support program comes in. Healthy Families’ Father Services helps provide men with children from birth to age 17 with the tools they need to become supportive fathers. This includes support or case management, parental education, support groups and employment or other community referrals.

This program stresses how important it is to remain involved in their children’s lives. Children who grow up in homes with a father or father figure are less likely to be abused or neglected and are more likely to have success in school or life.
