In Florida, the Florida Department of CHildren and Families’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program is the single state authority on substance abuse and mental health as designated by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The Florida Department of Health partners with DCF in seeking to prevent and reduce substance abuse and its negative effects on health. Providing this website is one of many ways we hope to educate the public and health care providers.

Naloxone Expansion Initiative

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) offers no-cost Naloxone (Narcan®) Nasal Spray kits. This lifesaving medication could reduce the total amount of fatalities attributed to opioid overdose across the state. Naloxone is available to anyone at risk of experiencing an overdose, including friends, family members, and others who may witness an opioid overdose.

The state’s Naloxone Distribution Program, or iSaveFL, operates under the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and partners with local stakeholders to bring Narcan® to your community.

Narcan® kits consist of two naloxone nasal sprays that can be administered by anyone without a health professional present. Through the work of opioid task forces around the state and with funding from various grants, such as the Helping Emergency Responders Obtain Support (HEROS) program, first responders in communities have been using naloxone to save lives.

Naloxone kits are available at no cost as a walk-in service. Anyone obtaining naloxone will receive educational materials and connections for substance use intervention. Call 727-568-8193 to learn more.
