Pandemic Flu Preparation
Every year, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County keeps an eye on the type of virus that gives people the flu during flu season and prepares for future pandemic flu outbreaks. A pandemic is when the flu virus is spread worldwide and makes a lot of people sick.
The Public Health Preparedness (PHP) program works with other community agencies to write plans that show how health care groups will take action during a flu pandemic in Pinellas County. The PHP program also educates the public on how to protect themselves and their families from getting the flu.
To avoid getting the flu, you should:
Get a flu vaccine every year
Wash your hands often with soap and water
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
