Men die at an earlier age than women. Men are less likely to get routine medical care or screenings than women. It’s important that men take care of themselves so that they can be there for their families and others. The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County offers a variety of services to men, both medical and non-medical.

Father Services

Father Services is a voluntary program designed for male partners of a pregnant woman or father of a child (ren) receiving services from any of the following home visitation services:

The goal of the program is to assist fathers in becoming actively involved in the lives of their child(ren). Studies have shown that children from homes with an absent father are more likely to be victims of abuse or neglect, exhibit behavior problems, drop out of school, engage in criminal behavior or become parents at as teens.

We understand that you may not be available during regular 8 to 5 hours. With this in mind, we develop the visitation schedule around your availability and location. Services are offered throughout Pinellas County. Upon enrollment in the program you will be assigned a Family Support Worker who is a father himself. He will assist you with developing a plan to address your needs and goals.

Health Services

Men have high rates of cancer, heart disease, and obesity. There are several medical screening and educational programs available at DOH-Pinellas, including prostate cancer, STD and HIV, skin cancer, food, and nutrition. These programs are offered at most of our locations and you can contact the location nearest you to get specific information.

Men’s Health Services supports many of these efforts and information for services in the community and DOH-Pinellas, and may be obtained at 727-462 MALE (6253) from a Registered Nurse.
