Immunization Program

The primary goal of our immunization program is to prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases in Pinellas County.

Our health centers offer free childhood immunizations as well as adult immunization for a fee Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

These immunization services are offered on a walk-in basis. No appointments are required.

• Foreign travel immunizations are offered at our Mid County Health Center at 8751 Ulmerton Rd., Largo, on an appointment-only basis.

Immunization Fees

• There is no charge for routine children’s immunizations.
• Adult immunizations are offered; fees may be applied.

Customers providing proof of Medicare Part B (non-HMO) coverage may be eligible for influenza (flu) and pneumococcal (pneumonia) immunizations at no charge.

Foreign Travel Immunizations

Foreign travel clients are seen by appointment only - call 727-824-6900, option 4. 

Please bring photo ID (not on your phone), and check in 15 minutes before your appointment time to complete registration paperwork. In addition to providing all of the countries IN ORDER of travel arrival when you make your appointment, please bring to your appointment a printed itinerary and printed immunization record, if available.

Foreign travel immunizations are offered at our Mid County location:

• 8751 Ulmerton Rd., Largo, Florida
• Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on an appointment-only basis.

Travel vaccines are not offered at other DOH-Pinellas locations. There are other clinics in the Tampa Bay area that are not part affiliated with the Florida Department of Health that also administer travel vaccines.

Fees

International Travel Immunization Fees

The DOH-Pinellas foreign travel nurse offers in-person consultations regarding immunizations for a fee of $50 per person. THE CONSULTATION AND FEE ARE NOT OPTIONAL and is in addition to the price of any immunization received. No consultations are provided on the phone or via email.

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County does not bill insurance.

Persons 60 years of age and older are required to present a physician’s prescription before yellow fever vaccine can be administered.

Required School Immunizations

All Pinellas County children entering kindergarten must provide proof of the following immunizations:

• 4-5 doses of DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis)
• 3 doses of hepatitis B
• 3-5 doses of inactivated polio (IPV)
• 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella)
• 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or documented evidence of chickenpox disease

Adolescents entering 7^th grade need to present proof of a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis).

Human papillomavirus (HPV) and meningococcal ACWY are not required. Adolescents 11 or 12 years old should get two shots of HPV vaccine six to twelve months apart. Adolescents who start the series at 15 years of age or older will require a third dose of HPV. Adolescents 11 or 12 years of age should get a dose of Meningococcal ACWY, followed by a second dose at age 16 years of age.

A completed Certificate of Immunization from the Florida Department of Health (DH680) is issued when the student has received all required immunization. All required immunization dates or exemptions must be on the form.

Adult Immunization Information

DOH-Pinellas offers a variety of routine vaccinations for adults. Vaccine fees may be applied.

Much like children and adolescents, adults need to keep their immunizations up to date to protect themselves from diseases that can result in death or disability. Talk to your doctor to make sure they are right for you.

• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• Herpes Zoster (shingles)
• HPV (human papillomavirus) - 19 - 26 years of age. For those older, talk with your health care provider.
• Influenza (flu)
• Meningococcal
• MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
• Pneumococcal
• Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)
• Varicella (chickenpox)
