The Limited Use Public Water Systems Program consists of public drinking water systems that are not covered under the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). These systems include commercial facilities and multifamily residences (five or more residences or two or more rental residences) served by an onsite well.

Definitions for these wells and statutory authorization are found in section 381.0062 of the Florida Statutes. Under the Florida Administrative Code 64E-8, the department is responsible for annual permitting, permitting of newly constructed or modified systems, water quality monitoring involving chemical and bacteriological sampling, as well as any enforcement actions necessary to ensure systems are kept in compliance.
