Tanning Facilities

FL Dept of Health in Pinellas - Environmental Health

Tanning Facilities Program

The Environmental Health Program monitors tanning facilities in Pinellas County to ensure compliance with the FL statutes for safety, sanitation, and correct operating procedures to ensure the safety of Pinellas residents and visitors.

Tanning Establishment Licensure Requirements

sunThe Environmental Health Program licenses tanning operations that meet the requirements found in Chapter 64E-17, Florida Administrative Code and both Florida Statutes 381 and 386. To ensure the facility meets these standards prior to licensing, a plan review of the facility is required. The plan must be drawn to scale and show barrier walls or other devices that will shield waiting customers and employees from UV light as well as restroom locations.

The Environmental Health Program monitors the facility's operation through regular inspections to assure that the required sanitary standards are being maintained.

It is required that the employees that assist customers or operate tanning devices be formally trained in the operation and maintenance of the devices. Inspectors check to ensure that the operators complete an approved training course.
