The “Passport to Preparedness Hazards & Healthcare” conference will be held, at the Port of Tampa’s Cruise Terminal 2, 651 Channelside Dr., Tampa. The Tampa Bay Health and Medical Preparedness Coalition, the Port of Tampa and the St. Petersburg College Workforce Institute have joined forces to present the conference, which includes a disaster exercise and speakers.

The Tampa Bay coalition is one of seven in the state created after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Its mission includes developing and promotion of disaster preparedness and recovery capabilities within the health and medical system. Members of the Tampa Bay Coalition include Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Sumter, Citrus, Hardee, Hernando and Manatee counties. Nurses, therapists, social workers, nursing home executives and dietitians are among the health professionals eligible to earn 6.5 continuing education (CE) hours for attending the conference. The $109 registration fee is valid until April 12; when it increases to $119 until spaces are filled. A continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments are included in the price. The conference opens with registration at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.

The agenda also includes a presentation addressing communications across cultural and generational borders, information on new State of Florida rules, a training exercise and a session by Florida Department of Emergency Management.
