Testing and Outreach Best Practices
It is the responsibility of each service provider to ensure all testing devices remain below the manufacturer’s guidelines. This means that during the summer months, testing must take place inside a building or mobile unit with air conditioning.

SureCheck and Insti
- Controls must be stored at temperatures between 36oF and 46 oF.
- Test kits must be stored at temperatures between 46oF and 86 oF.
- Test kits should be used at room temperature. The manufacturer’s instructions indicate that room temperature is between 64oF and 86 oF.
Temperature log should be completed DAILY.
OraSure Oral
Store unused OraSure Oral Specimen devices at room temperature (64oF and 77oF). Exposure to higher temperatures should be avoided. Protect from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
AFTER specimen collection:
- Collected specimens must be stored and transported in the OraSure Specimen Vial.
- Collected specimens should be protected from impact, direct sunlight, and temperatures exceeding 98oF.
- Collected specimens may be stored at 35oF to 98oF for a maximum of 21 days (including shipping and testing time).
