By Maggie Hall, PIO - Contact Number: 727-824-6908

June 24, 2016

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) is offering no-cost HIV testing 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday, June 27, at five locations in recognition of National HIV Testing Day

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. If left untreated, HIV can lead to the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Unlike some other viruses, the human body can’t get rid of HIV completely. But with treatment, an HIV infection can be managed, reducing the chance of progression.

“HIV testing should be a regular part of everybody’s healthcare routine” said Dr. Ulyee Choe, DOH-Pinellas’ director. “Knowing your status is important to prevent spreading HIV and to begin life-saving treatment sooner.”

HIV testing is available at the following DOH-Pinellas locations:

  • Clearwater: 310 North Myrtle Ave.
  • Mid-County: 8751 Ulmerton Rd.
  • Pinellas Park: 6350 76th Ave. N.
  • St. Petersburg: 205 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N.
  • Tarpon Springs: 301 S. Disston Ave.
