- Free screenings and giveaways at St. Petersburg event on Monday, Dec. 1 - 

Each year, World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 offers a chance for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.

In Pinellas County, World AIDS Day will be observed on Monday, Dec. 1 with a downtown St. Petersburg event that will offer free health screenings, food, giveaways and entertainment from noon to 4 PM at Williams Park, 330 2nd Ave. N. This year’s theme is Getting to Zero, as in zero HIV infections, AIDS-related deaths or discrimination of people with HIV/AIDS.

The event’s organizers are Help-Us-Help-U and the members of the Pinellas Planning Partnership, which was established in June 2011 to facilitate collaboration between AIDS service organizations in
Pinellas County. The partnership is comprised of the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County, Operation PAR, The Banyan Tree, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Metro Wellness and Community
Centers, ASAP, Positively U, Inc., Walgreens, the City of St. Petersburg, Ghettreal Community Services and Youth Education Services.
