Everyone from the ages of 13 to 64 should be tested at least once for HIV, with those at higher risk recommended to test each year.

National HIV Testing Day, June 27, is a great opportunity to get no-cost tests that can lead to an early diagnosis and treatment of HIV. Yet, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in seven people living with HIV in the U.S. don’t know they have it.

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) and the Pinellas Planning Partnership (PPP) will provide no-cost HIV testing, information and more at several locations in the community as well as at DOH-Pinellas clinics to make the process more convenient.

Know your status by getting a no-cost HIV test from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, at these DOH-Pinellas centers:

• St. Petersburg: 205 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N.
• Pinellas Park: 6350 76th Ave. N.
• Mid-County (Largo): 8751 Ulmerton Rd.
• Clearwater: 310 N. Myrtle Ave.
• Tarpon Springs: 301 S. Disston Ave.

Community organizations in the Pinellas Planning Partnership (PPP) are also providing no-cost HIV tests on June 27 at these locations:

• 9 a.m. to noon, Walgreens, 875 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N., St. Petersburg
• 9 a.m. to noon, Walgreens, 900 49th St. N., St. Petersburg
• 3-7 p.m., Walgreens, 3350 Central Ave., St. Petersburg

On Friday, June 28, the Out of the Closet Thrift Store at 3400 26th Ave. S., St. Petersburg, will provide no-cost HIV and syphilis tests from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food and beverages are provided.

These events are organized by the PPP, comprised of DOH-Pinellas, Empath Partners in Care (EPIC), Metro Wellness and Community Centers, Clear Health Alliance, Help Us Help U, Youth Education Services (YES), St. Petersburg Chapter of National Black Nurses Association, Inc., Neighborly Care Network, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and Walgreens.
